Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings - IPL 2013 Final

Mumbai vs Chennai

Here we are at the IPL finals! The stage is set and the wait is ultimately over. 75 matches have been played in IPL 2013 and after all the speculations, permutations and combinations; we have our finalists viz. Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians. These two teams met each other in the finals of IPL 2010 where Chennai surged to be the winner.

Chennai Super Kings is a phenomenal team with five times entry into the finals out of six IPL editions. In previous four IPL final matches, Chennai won two and lost two. Mumbai Indians have reached only one finals (that is in 2010) and lost it to Chennai. So today's match serves Mumbai a brilliant opportunity to win one and make it even stevens.

On paper we are going to witness a match between two equally matched teams. Mumbai Indians have a better head to head stats against Chennai. But Chennai are superior to Mumbai when it comes to play in the final matches. Even this year, Mumbai defeated Chennai in both the round robin matches, but lost to Chennai in the first play off (qualifier) match.

Both the teams are full of T20 specialists. Chennai has Michael Hussey, Suresh Raina, Murali Vijay, R Ashwin, D Bravo, MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja and many more to name. On the other hand Mumbai Indians have Rohit Sharma, D Smith, K Pollard, D Karthik, L Malinga, Harbhajan, Ojha, etc. This promises to be a tight contest between the heavyweights.

Mumbai Indians have enjoyed a lot of success at the Eden Gardens. Adding to the flavour, Smith is in sparkling form at the top of batting order. Harbhajan seems to have regain his lost form this year. Pollard can be very vital in such important matches.

On the other hand Michael Hussey in Chennai Super Kings has scored most number of runs in IPL 2013 and his Orange Cap now looks out of danger. Even Bravo looks to finally hold the Purple Cap as his opponent in the race Faulkner is out of the tournament now. The conditions at the Eden Gardens can also bring a happy day for Ashwin and Jadeja.

Both these teams have really worked hard this year and finished at the top two positions. Whoever wins, let us hope for a tight contest.
